Abstract
Background: To determine the effect of strength of outsole on plantar pressure of safety boots.

Methods: The experimental subjects were 25 male persons without any diseases. They were assessed by peak plantar pressure when they wore two different type outsoles. The plantar area was districted by 10 regions. PEDAR System¨Þ (Novel gmbh, Munich, Germany) was used to measure the pressure, and PEDAR-C expert program¨Þ (Novel gmbh, Munich, Germany) was used to analyze the pressure.

Results: Total plantar pressure in flexible outsole was measured low. Fore-foot except mid fore-foot and mid-foot plantar pressures were measured low in flexible outsole, whereas, mid-fore foot plantar
pressure in rigid outsole was measured lower than in flexible outsole.

Conclusion: Peak plantar pressure according to outsole¡¯s type was significantly different. This means that as normal metatarsophalangeal joint¡¯s flexion is hard, medial foot and toe in rigid outsole had
execessive pressure in terminal stance period.
